“Rotating or tilting buckets are usually ditching or grading buckets, so they are normally wide and have a short tip radius with low capacity,” says Lee Horton, Leading Edge Attachments. “They offer the advantage of being very effective at shaping the ground to create non-flat surfaces. The weight of the tilting mechanism is usually not an issue because a ditching and grading bucket is normally not used for bailing or digging large amounts of material.

“It’s a very stable machine—it has a good footprint,” said Frieders. “We took that counterweight out to full reach over the side, and the machine was very stable, very smooth. The only time it showed any hint of getting a bit light was when I purposely gave the stick a quick twitch outward just to see how the machine would react. But as long as you kept movements smooth, there was absolutely no problem. The machine’s sensitive mode is an advantage when you’re lifting—it slows down hydraulic action for better control, but you’re not losing any power.”

A toothed version also is available, which uses the same teeth as the previous bucket model so customers and dealers do not have to stock two types of teeth. Additionally, a scalloped cast side cutter has been added for improved durability and functionality.

The material bucket telehandler attachment from JLG Industries, McConnellsburg, Pa., can scoop and carry loose material and debris, like gravel or dirt, along with cleanup around a job site. The material buckets are available in different widths and capacities.
