The attachment features a two-speed chain/sprocket drive and a 5- to 20-gpm hydraulic flow range. The walk-around completed, Frieders and Howard then used the R 920 in a number of typical job-site applications: trenching, truck-loading, lifting, front-shovel work, and perhaps in a not-so-typical task for an excavator, dozing considerable volumes of excavated material back into the trenches.
“Choosing a bucket that has a shorter tip radius will provide higher tooth forces for digging or ripping through tough materials, thus better penetration,” says Horton. “Also, the bucket with the least teeth in contact with the material at any one time will provide higher tooth forces. Of course, buckets that have short tip radii are often lower capacity. In order to achieve the highest productivity, the bucket characteristics of number of teeth, width, tip radius and capacity should be matched with rippability of the material to be excavated.”

The casual but earnest nature of the hunters probably connects them to their anonymous viewers. After all, this is not your everyday construction job. Equipment doesn’t seem to break down. There are few hardhats in evidence. Everyone is dressed like they are heading for the convenience store instead of slogging through a work day. Chit-chat is notably devoid of profanity. In short, lots of people can identify with what they’re watching.
When asked about any cab features they particularly liked, both operators mentioned what might seem a relatively insignificant item—but obviously important from an experienced operator’s point of view.
