“Overall, I’d rate its digging performance as excellent. The pilot controls on this machine are very smooth and responsive, but have a bit of a different touch, compared with electro-hydraulic controls. It’s just a matter of initially adapting to the individual system when you first use the machine.”
ROUND THREE: They touch gloves for the last round, and Burns fires a one two that misses. Bit of a right form Burns but he took a finger to the eye. On the restart Burns lands another right. Aubin-Mercier lands a knee to the body and gets a clinch. Bit of a throw from Burns then he clips Aubin-Mercier with a hook along the fence. Burns lands a right to the body then Aubin-Mercier lands a head kick. Aubin-Mercier is stepping in with elbows, and walks into a straight right form Burns. They trade body kicks at distance. Burns ducks under a jab and gets a single leg, then switches to a double leg and he’s on top of Aubin-Mercier in half guard. The top pressure from Burns is nuts, there’s no space between him and his opponent. Burns lands a few rights while fighting to get the back. Burns has the back but no hooks as Aubin-Mercier is trying to wall walk. Now Burns gets both hooks in and gets a body triangle, he’s after the Suloev stretch but Aubin-Mercier rolls through to avoid it. Hard elbows from the back by Burns and he’s looking to open up the choke. Burns is doing everything to open up the neck but Aubin-Mercier is protecting his neck well so far. Aubin-Mercier is able to slip out the back door and regain his feet, they trad punches and this gets wild for the last ten seconds or so but no finish materializes.
The casual but earnest nature of the hunters probably connects them to their anonymous viewers. After all, this is not your everyday construction job. Equipment doesn’t seem to break down. There are few hardhats in evidence. Everyone is dressed like they are heading for the convenience store instead of slogging through a work day. Chit-chat is notably devoid of profanity. In short, lots of people can identify with what they’re watching.
Working with Liebherr USA’s Construction Equipment Division, Finkbiner Equipment Co. (Liebherr’s dealer based in Burr Ridge, Ill.), and IUOE Local 150 in Wilmington, Ill., CE had opportunity for a close look at the R 920’s design and performance as Local 150 operators Greg Frieders and Hershel Howard, instructors for the Local’s Apprenticeship and Skill Improvement Program (ASIP), spent the better part of a hot, humid June day working the machine at various tasks.
Four systems are involved in Intelligent Hydraulic Control. Boom Economy Control drops engine speed and uses gravity during boom down and swing. Auto Economy Control lowers engine rpm after controls are in a neutral state for 10 seconds and will do an auto shutdown, when enabled, after a preset idle period. Swing Relief Control regulates pump flow at the onset of the swing cycle. Spool Stroke Control monitors operator inputs and adjusts flow during dig cycles to optimize machine performance.
“The Shark Tooth has cut our burning time in half,” Thompson said, indicating that his landowner customers are now saving money due to reduced permitting costs related to burning and hauling equipment.
“It all comes down to material type as to what type of GET you use,” says Neal. “Whether it’s bucket teeth or extra guarding to protect the life of the bucket, there is a fine balance between longevity of the bucket and overall productivity. The heavier the bucket, the less payload the machine will be able to achieve.”
“The fact that you don’t have to take your hands off the joysticks to use a separate controller for an auxiliary function is a plus for this machine,” said Frieders. “The design just seems more functional than some others.”
Roy goes back to his desk and—sixth time—retools the story, which by now is late; other major outlets have already progressed from factual account to think piece.
Bobcat Company has expanded its current attachment line-up with the newly redesigned trenching buckets and all-new grading buckets for Bobcat E26 through E85 compact excavators. Both buckets will greatly benefit compact excavator operators, offering them increased durability and reliability, maximum digging capabilities and easier clean-out when cleaning ditches, backfilling, leveling or grading, according to the manufacturer.
Like most of Engcon’s hydraulic tools, the top bracket is bolt-on and can be adapted to the digger owner’s hitch. The SK02 also has bolt-on cutting blades, prepared for digging teeth, and can be delivered with side cheeks so it can also be used as a clamshell bucket.
Well that was a great way to break up all those decisions. Fun stuff there. Mic time for Santos and his translator, he says the game plan was to prove he can hit hard and that he’s here to stay. He talks us through the finish, says he loves making his opponent feel pain until they can’t take it anymore. He sends love to Brazil, to his son and some friends back home, then thanks Canada in English.
